This is my Daruma Doll. It is a traditional Japanese doll that my son helped me pick out when we visited him in Japan. They are seen as a sign of perseverance. They come with blank eyes. One eye is to be filled in when you set your goal with the second one filled in upon completion. I filled in the first one a little over a year ago when I recommitted myself to completing the first draft of my memoir. Today I filled in the second eye as I finished the last story of my draft.
I began this project in the fall of 2018, eight months after my mother died. I had no idea when I began it how difficult it would be. I also had no idea how much I would grow, not only as a daughter of an abusive mother, but as a writer. I’m looking forward to the next phase of this process and hoping some day to be able to publish it. Thanks to all of my supporters along the way. I wouldn’t be here without you. The truth shall set you free!
